  • Serrated knife
  • Large plate/platter
  • Sheet pans lined with parchment paper or tin foil
  • Optional for beginners: Cardboard (around 6x9 Tall), Popsicle Sticks, Skewers, Hot Glue. Note: this will make the house inedible.
Tips
  • When you have built the desired components of your Frosted Chalet, arrange all the pieces together on a large cutting board and dust with icing for a festive finish.
  • Use graham crackers as a base for each piece to provide structure to the house.
  • Ensure you have royal icing, not cookie icing, to hold together your house. If you need to make your own royal icing—combine 1 large egg white, 2c confectioner sugar, and 1/2tsp water.
Directions
1
Begin by building the walls. Fit a piping bag with a round tip and fill with royal icing and pipe a thick line of royal frosting on a Snyder’s of Hanover Pretzel Rod. Then continue placing Snyder’s Pretzel Rods one on top of the other until you have built four wall pieces that are 8.75” wide by 10” high. The walls should slope from a point to sides that are 6” high.
2
To create windows on each wall piece, use Snyder’s of Hanover Snaps.
3
Leave a space for a square window on one of the square walls. The window should sit to the right of center at ground floor level and be made using Snyder’s of Hanover Dipping Sticks and Snyder’s of Hanover Snaps.
4
To construct the main roof, use Snyder’s of Hanover Sticks to make a triangle that is 5” by 6” by 7.75”.
5
To finish, when the royal frosting has dried firmly setting all pretzel pieces together, you can begin assembling. First, assemble the four walls. Second, fix the two main roof elements onto the walls. Third, fix the two triangular pairs of cross roofs onto the main roof to form the cross shaped roof.
1
To create the roof to your porch, build two rectangles out of Snyder’s of Hanover Sticks that are 3” high by 4.25” wide.
2
Next, construct a rectangle of horizontal Snyder’s of Hanover Sticks that is 4.5” wide by 7” high. Measure the middle of the length of the shorter side (2.25”) and make a mark. Measure to the middle of the length the longer side of the rectangle (4.5”) and make a mark. Using your cutting board and serrated knife, carefully cut away the Snyder’s of Hanover Sticks between the marks on both sides to create the top of a triangle for the roof to fit on.
3
To build the sides, fix together Snyder’s of Hanover Sticks to make two rectangles that are 1.25” by 4.5”.
4
To create the porch base, fix together Snyder’s of Hanover Sticks to make one piece that is 4.5” by 2.5”.
5
Using your serrated knife, carefully and gently cut one graham cracker to a 2” by 4” rectangle for the door.
6
To finish, once your royal icing has dried and everything is set, form a three-sided box and firmly fix the two roof pieces to the top. Next, fit the door to the front of the structure. Lastly, using Snyder’s of Hanover Rods and Snyder’s of Hanover Minis, build a decorative support structure for the front of the porch.
1
Begin by building the walls of your cottage. Fix together Snyder’s of Hanover Sticks to make two end walls of the cottage that are 6.25” high by 5.25” wide sloping from the high point to the sides 4” high.
2
To create the front wall of the cottage that is 4” high by 7” wide with two windows and a door, use Snyder’s of Hanover Pretzel Rods, Snyder’s of Hanover Minis, Snyder’s of Hanover Snaps, and Snyder’s of Hanover Dipping Sticks. Next, construct a wall of the same dimension (4”high by 7”wide) using all Snyder’s of Hanover Sticks for the back of the cottage. Feel free to add windows and doors to this wall as well if you please.
3
For the main roof, construct two rectangles out of Snyder’s of Hanover Sticks. The front roof rectangle should have no overhang and be 3.5” by 7.25”. The rectangle for the back roof should be 4” by 7.25”. Construct a single veranda roof at 2” by 7.25”.
4
Using of Snyder’s of Hanover Pretzel Rods, Snyder’s of Hanover Dipping Sticks, Snyder’s of Hanover Minis, and your imagination, make a structure at 7” wide to support the veranda roof.
5
To finish, once your royal icing has dried and everything is set, assemble the four walls into a box. Next add the main roof pieces. Lastly, assemble the veranda structure and the remaining parts of the veranda roof and fix down.
